[edit] General

Chief Engineer - Joe/nikgod (jcooter <-at> oceanius <-dot-> com)

Technical Goals:

  • have a good acoustic environment for content creation on site
  • stream locally
  • stream to the world
  • relay audio feeds from the seminars when the seminar rooms are at capacity for popular talks
  • record all the programming we generate

To be defined:

  • plan for securing equipment
  • an orderly setup and take down plan.
  • equipment needs for the booth (cd player, basic mixer or fancy console, turntables, microphones, computer terminal, spiffy lighting, etc.)
  • equipment needs for streaming (servers, data line to the NOC, etc.)

[edit] Streaming Audio

We need to work on setting up shoutcast/icecast/podcast servers for the outside world, and run a local stream server for people at the conference.

Servers already volunteered:

  • Sliqua Enterprise Hosting (www.sliqua.com) - co-owned by Joe/nikgod, can commit ~ 10megabit

[edit] Isolation Booth

We are looking at a ClearSonic MegaPac[1] isolation booth to use as the announcer booth and primary control room. This product is a 7 foot wide by 8 foot deep by 7 foot high sound isolation chamber used for reducing the amount of sound put out by a drum kit. It is proposed that we use the booth not to keep sound from escaping, but instead to keep sound out, so we have good acoustics for broadcasting from the expo level in the middle of all the conference's chaotic activities.

With equipment, this is probably a two person booth, three max. Heat and space are of concern. It has a hole in the ceiling panel at the back which should be good for ventilation and running cables out.

We can rent it at a rate of $150 for the week, and be responsible for the $300 round trip shipping cost. $450 total to get the iso booth.

Original thought was to put it in the lobby near the escalator, but it will probably be better near the Network Operations Center and Info Desk on the second floor. We need to find out the exact ceiling height in there, it may be insufficient or really really close.
