You can join using any Matrix account. If you need to set up a client and create an account, check below! Once you're signed up and signed in, just send the token you were emailed (HOPE_16::ABCD...) to '''@corebot:hope.net''' to get access to the HOPE_16 space. If you have multiple tokens (for example, as both an attendee and a presenter), send each in its own message.

The bot will validate your token and send you an invite, which you can find in the Spaces section of the app (left bar on web/desktop, squares-and-circle icon at bottom right on mobile). Once you've accepted the invite you can explore the rooms in the space, like Announcements, Jobs & Gigs, Info Desk, and the chats for each scheduled talk.

The exception is that people with current handicap/accessibility tags can park in a labeled accessible spot in the general parking lot overnight. Access to campus after 11 pm is via Gate 6 only. == Your Arrival at A New HOPE, Parking, and Pedestrians ==

Everyone attending A New HOPE must provide proof of vaccination before getting their conference badge (see the COVID-19 Safety item, below). Once you provide your proof of vaccination, you will next go to the Registration Desk to get your badge. Your badge is for all 3 conference days, so don't lose it.

If you are parking on campus, use Gate 6 to park in the parking structure. You will get a parking pass when you get your badge, to display on your dashboard (yes, you need to walk to provide proof of vaccination, then to Registration, then back to your vehicle - sorry about that). Parking is free, and for the entire conference.

For the Gate 6 location, see the St. John's [https://www.stjohns.edu/sites/default/files/2019-02/m1-10649_queens_map_legend.pdf campus map]. Driving directions from the west: Head west on the Grand Central Parkway and exit right at 188th St. At the light make a left and then an immediate right and stay on that street until you get to Utopia Parkway. Stay on the service road and make a left on 168th St and a right on Goethals Ave and Gate 6 will be right in front of you.

If you are taking public transportation, you will likely enter via Gate 5. Note that Gate 6 is the only entry between 11pm and 6am for pedestrians or drivers, and you will need your conference badge for admission to campus.

All in-person attendees for A New HOPE need to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Attendees will show proof of vaccination upon check-in. This will be separate from registration and we will NOT save that information. (This allows you to attend the conference under an alias while filling the above requirement.)

Everyone attending A New HOPE must provide proof of vaccination before getting their conference badge (see the COVID-19 Safety item, below). Once you provide your proof of vaccination, you will next go to the Registration Desk to get your badge. Your badge is for all 3 conference days, so don't lose it.

If you are parking on campus, use Gate 6 to park in the parking structure. Everyone attending A New HOPE must provide proof of vaccination before getting their conference badge (see the COVID-19 Safety item, below). Once you provide your proof of vaccination, you will next go to the Registration Desk to get your badge. Your badge is for all 3 conference days, so don't lose it.

If you are parking on campus, use Gate 6 to park in the parking structure. You will get a parking pass when you get your badge, to display on your dashboard (yes, you need to walk to provide proof of vaccination, then to Registration, then back to your vehicle - sorry about that). Parking is free, and for the entire conference.

In addition, the HOPE conference has a number of volunteers who have taken on the role of "facilitator." These volunteers may be called on to assist in any disputes, and will monitor, report on, and escalate issues if needed.

If you encounter harassment, behavioral problems or other issues at HOPE, and think it is at odds with the CoC or otherwise would like to have it brought to the attention of HOPE management, please bring it forward: 
- Tell someone! Any of the security team or core staff or Operation Hammond personnel will be able to direct your concern as appropriate. If you are not sure who to talk to, find anyone with a radio or with a staff badge.

HOPE volunteers are all expected to treat your inquiry with sensitivity, and will strive to respond quickly. It is helpful if you provide contact information, and any details such as screen shots, names or handles of the peopled involve, and a summary of the situation.

HOPE 2020 will be a NINE DAY EVENT, beginning on Saturday, July 25th and running through Sunday, August 2nd, 2020. The event will be entirely online, and will include scheduled talks, workshops, keynotes, concerts, and more! Registered attendees will be able to interact live with presenters and each other.

== Donate to the EFF! ==

We want to help give back by holding a fundraiser for the EFF during the
nine days of HOPE. We believe we can bring in $10,000 over that period.
Throughout the conference, many EFF people will be giving talks on
topics like the evils of Ring, mobile privacy, the Foreign Intelligence
Surveillance Act, facial recognition, and more. And the traditional
"Ask the EFF" panel is always a favorite with our attendees.

So please join with us and be among the first to support EFF so they'll
be there for all of us in the future. We have a feeling we're going to

HOPE 2020 will be a NINE DAY EVENT, beginning on Saturday, July 25th and running through Sunday, August 2nd, 2020. The event will be entirely online, and will include scheduled talks, workshops, keynotes, concerts, and more! Registered attendees will be able to interact live with presenters and each other.

The following information is intended primarily for users on computers (desktops and laptops). For controls on other devices, please see <https://hubs.mozilla.com/docs/hubs-controls.html>.

To sign in to Mozilla Hubs, browse <https://hubs.mozilla.com>. Enter your email address, and you will receive a verification email. It’s important to sign in so your user access and avatar can be saved. If you sign out, you’ll have to request another verification email to sign back in, but your information will persist.

One or more Hubs rooms will have been previously created by HOPE staff. Navigate to your space via the provided URL (for example, https://hub.link/JMLy2sx). Then, please contact the helpdesk to be made a moderator of that room. Due to the processing power required for 3D graphics, HOPE staff are unable to be in every room at all times.

To request new rooms for more specialized needs, please contact HOPE staff.

When you are made a room moderator, please review the Room Settings by clicking the menu icon in the upper left corner of the screen. The ability to create drawings is not recommended for this conference since it can create clutter. If you don’t want users to put images and other media in the room, deselect “Create and move objects”. If you don’t want users to make their objects persist when they are not in the room, deselect “Pin objects”. Deselecting options will not affect moderator options.

To give moderator access to another user, click the users icon at the upper right of the screen. Activate the star next to the user who should become a room moderator.

Move around in the room with WASD or the arrow keys. Look around by holding down the left mouse button and moving the mouse. Teleport by holding down the right mouse button, moving the target, and releasing the button.

If you would like to change the world scene, click the menu icon and then click “Choose a scene”.

Next, invite users to your space. This is done with the magenta Share button near the top of the screen. You will see a hub.link URL that can be given to users in a variety of ways. Anyone who has the room link will be able to join, so please be careful when giving out this information. Users are able to block other users, but Hubs does not currently have fine grained access control.

Hubs rooms have a recommended 25 user limit, but additional users can watch the room “from the lobby”, and chat.

The Hubs features that will probably be most useful are chatting and posting media to your room. Use of the camera might also be beneficial.

To chat using text, enter text in the chat bar and press Enter, or click the Send arrow. To chat using audio, simply speak into your microphone, making sure it is not muted.

To upload media from your device, click the plus icon in the chat bar. To enter a media link, click the magic wand icon in the chat bar. For shortcuts to popular 3D media, click the large magenta magic wand icon at the top of the screen.

To move an object, click or tap it and drag. To change the size of an object, use your mouse’s scroll wheel while moving the object. Use of the Shift key, as Hubs sometimes indicates, is not required. For additional (“secondary”) object controls, hover over the object and press Space, and then click the appropriate icon while keeping Space held down.

To make objects persist when you are not in the room, Pin them using the secondary icons.

To make a picture or movie clip of the scene, click the camera icon at the top of the screen. Position and rotate the camera that appears by clicking and dragging, and by using the secondary icons shown when pressing Space. Then use the camera’s main arrow icons to select a photograph or a video (and video length), and click the camera’s main top icon to record the media.
