In this talk, you will learn about realistic options for moving to another country, getting work permits, residency, or even a second citizenship no matter what your current citizenship may be. You'll also learn about organizations that are already helping vulnerable groups find refuge in other countries. Elior will talk about finding your "points of privilege" and taking advantage of them for your own safety and that of your loved ones. You'll leave with links and keywords to help you research safe locations, visa requirements, and work opportunities.
= A brief introduction to GNU screen =

== Abstract ==

Screen is part of the GNU project, and is an overlooked utility that can make working on the command line much easier.
Screen is a terminal multiplexer that allows for disconnecting remote sessions, multiple ways to enhance viewing of your command line sessions, and better ways to capture data from those sessions.
I’ll show you how to use all of this, as well as how to install it under several GNU/Linux (and other) operating systems.

== Materials ==

There are no physical supplies to be had. Aside from a Unix variant or another computer than can run screen.

== Required Software ==

If the attendees can load screen before starting the workshop, they will have a little more time to explore the program. GNU/Linux users will have instructions within the workshop, Windows and Mac users should download ahead of time.

=== Installing Screen ===

On Centos 8:

sudo yum install epel-release
sudo yum install screen

Redhat, older Fedora:

yum install screen

Newer Fedora:

dnf install screen

Debian/Ubuntu/Mint:

sudo apt-get install screen

== Slides ==
The slides are on [https://github.com/murphnj/screenpresentation/ github]
The slides for HOPE are [https://github.com/murphnj/screenpresentation/blob/master/presh.tpp presh.tpp].

=== Viewing the slides ===
[https://github.com/cbbrowne/tpp TPP] is a terminal based presentation software built in Ruby. It is available in many distribution repositories, so you can probably install using the same instructions you used for screen above, but change "screen" to tpp.

Speaker: '''William Paul Liggett''' of [https://junktext.com junktext]

Date: Friday, July 31st, 2020

Time: 2:00 - 3:00 PM (ET)

Have you heard that you should never, ever use Telnet anymore? Sure, Telnet is horribly insecure, but did you know you can effectively control much of the Internet with good old Telnet? Don't believe it? Then come and learn how to use Python to do some web server reconnaissance and how to build your own IRC bot that is all powered by Telnet! Note: All skill levels (beginner to advanced) are welcome to attend and you are not required to download/run any code to participate in the workshop.

'''Running the Code:'''
If you want to download, run, and/or modify the code, I have posted it to my Projects page under the fun name of '''[https://junktext.com/projects/#telnet-muhahaha Telnet Muhahaha!]''' under the GNU Affero GPL 3 (AGPLv3) open source software license. I've tested it on Linux and Windows and the program works great. Those that are using a VPN might have issues connecting to some IRC servers. So, that is a network problem and not an issue with my program.

'''Live Chatting with Me:'''
If you have any questions/comments while you are watching my workshop demonstration, I will be monitoring the BigBlueButton (BBB) workshop chat and the Matrix chat room titled '''Workshops'''. Also, I have a very famous IRC channel called '''#junktext''' (that consists of me and ChanServ currently) which I created a week ago on 2600's IRC network [irc-us.scuttled.net || irc.2600.net]. That's my ''official'' IRC channel and I will be monitoring that as well.
[[File:WeChat Image 20200714231257.jpg|thumb]]

As COVID19 sweeps the world, thousands of people die of pneumonia every day.
One of the key lifesavers is the ventilator, but due to this insane number of cases, ventilators are on short supply.
We designed this workshop to help people create simple, inexpensive, and portable ventilators to fight the pandemic, as well as to let participants learn coding and engineering.
This workshop is for total newbies although having some programming and/or engineering experience will benefit you drastically. Besides learning new skills, you’ll have fun and do your part in fighting the pandemic!

Both the code and the hardware are provided by us, however, if you would like to tinker around, please do so!

Time:

Day/Time: Thursday July 30, 10:00pm-11:00pm -- New York Time (EDT)
Friday, July 31, 10:00 am--11:00am -- Beijing Time

'''Disclaimer:'''
'''''This ventilator, while we believe is helpful, has not been clinically tested or approved by any medical administrations.
'''''

'''''If there are professional ventilators available, please use those. We are not responsible for any injuries or deaths caused by this piece of equipment.'''''

==Full Description:==

Participants will learn the basic functions of a ventilator and how to achieve those functions in the easiest way possible.
They will learn how to build a simple frame and mechanism for the ventilator, as well as how to compile and possibly edit the code.
Though simple, inexpensive, and portable, the ventilator we have created for this workshop has 3 modes: Manual, timed, or dynamic.
Manual is the easiest to use and program, as its basically just actuating a motor when you press a button.
Timed is slightly harder, as it requires the motor to be actuated, then wait a certain time, then repeat.
Dynamic is the hardest, as you have to test the air pressure in the respiration tube and wait until it is negative.
This shows that the patient is attempting to breathe, and the motor must actuate to assist with it.
We will provide the code in a link, however, if you would like to use your own code, that is totally up to you!
This workshop is taught by '''Kevin Zheng''' and '''Rockets Xia''' and '''Tao'''
* Arrive in the meeting "room" 15-25 minutes before the workshop starts to meet with the presenter
* Provide or seek technical support if the presenter is having any issues or has requests
* During the workshop, monitor the room chat, and help attendees if you are able
* If there are issues, help to address them, or raise them with the appropriate team (technical issues, behavioral issues)
* For long-running workshops, it might not be necessary to stay for the whole thing (but it would be great if you could), once everything is working smoothly

Lishevita: /* Workshops */ Adding self to facilitate Python and Telnet workshop Friday

= We need volunteers to facilitate for workshops, Lockpicking Village workshops, and for Hackers Got Talent =
We need one volunteer facilitator for every workshop and talk, as well as the two Hackers Got Talent events.
If you can facilitate for any of the presentations, please add your name in the table.
If editing wiki pages isn't your thing, then please email <volunteers@hope.net> and let us know which workshop, talk or HGT event you would like to facilitate for.

The basics of this workshop helper role:
* '''Have an account at workshops.hope.net''', with the same name that you sign up here.

When you start the room, the default presentation that will show up is a basic "How-To operate BigBlueButton".

Lishevita: /* Workshops */ Adding facilitator to ventilator workshop

When you start the room, the default presentation that will show up is a basic "How-To operate BigBlueButton".
