= BlueLeaks Explorer: Learn to Analyze Hacked Police Documents =

'''This workshop will be given:'''<br>
Day 1: Friday, 12-July-2024, 8:00pm - 10:00pm, in Tobin 221 (Workshop 2)

'''Materials:'''<br>
To do this workshop you will need a computer running Linux, macOS, or Windows, an internet connection (to download data and dependencies), and at least 10GB of free disk space (though preferably about 530GB).

Here are the instructions we'll follow during the workshop: https://hacksandleaks.com/hope-xv.html

If you have time before the workshop, skim through it and download a copy of BlueLeaks and uncompress it. If you're currently at HOPE and haven't downloaded BlueLeaks yet, that's fine too!

<span style="color:orange">'''NOTE: You do NOT need to register to take this workshop -- please show up early to ensure a seat at Tobin 221 (Workshop 2).'''

== Abstract ==
In conjunction with Micah’s talk (“Hacks, Leaks, and Revelations: The Art of Analyzing Hacked and Leaked Data”), he will be teaching a workshop specifically about one of the datasets: BlueLeaks. In the summer of 2020, during the BLM uprising, someone hacked hundreds of U.S. law enforcement websites and leaked the data to Distributed Denial of Secrets. The dataset contains evidence of police misconduct. In this workshop, he’ll share a copy of the BlueLeaks dataset - which is full of documents marked “Law Enforcement Sensitive,” including from agencies like FBI and DHS - with all participants and teach you how to start analyzing it. Specifically, you’ll learn how to run custom software Micah wrote called BlueLeaks Explorer directly on your laptop, running inside Docker containers. Bring a laptop running Linux, Windows, or macOS and, if possible, an external hard disk. You’ll need about 300GB of free disk space.

== Presenter ==
Micah Lee
'''This workshop will be given:'''<br>
Day 1: Friday, 12-July-2024, 8:00pm - 10:00pm, in Tobin 221 (Workshop 2)

'''Materials:'''<br>
To do this workshop you will need a computer running Linux, macOS, or Windows, an internet connection (to download data and dependencies), and at least 10GB of free disk space (though preferably about 530GB).

Ideally, you will have a full copy of the [https://ddosecrets.com/wiki/BlueLeaks BlueLeaks dataset]. While not required, it would be helpful if you can download it and extract it ''before'' the workshop, as it's unlikely that you'll have the time to download it and extract it ''during'' the workshop.

If you can't, that's fine. I'll supply you with data that you will need at a minimum, and you can download the rest of BlueLeaks later.

BlueLeaks is 250GB compressed. Here's where to download it:

BitTorrent magnet link:

<nowiki>magnet:?xt=urn:btih:8cf92b7cd3f022fa5478b84963e89c1dd0af090f&dn=BlueLeaks&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.coppersurfer.tk%3A6969%2Fannounce&tr=udp%3A%2F%2F9.rarbg.to%3A2920%2Fannounce&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.opentrackr.org%3A1337&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.leechers-paradise.org%3A6969%2Fannounce&tr=udp%3A%2F%2Ftracker.coppersurfer.tk%3A6969%2Fannounce</nowiki>

Direct download over HTTPS: https://data.ddosecrets.com/BlueLeaks/ (you should download all 168 files)

Uncompressed, BlueLeaks is 269GB of data. If you download it compressed and then uncompress it, you'll need 519GB of data. I recommend that you use an external USB SSD with at least 1TB of disk space. (If you want to learn a quick way to uncompress hundreds of zip files, check out the first exercise in [https://hacksandleaks.com/chapter-4.html Chapter 4]).
