There are several Villages at HOPE XV. Each has its own wiki page. Most are in the Marillac Terrace. Check them out!


Please note that any materials needed to participate in hands-on portions of certain workshops that happen at a Village will be available at-cost. In all cases, observers are welcome for free. For details, visit the Workshop's wiki page.

Amateur Radio Station

We have an Amateur Radio station W2H again this year at HOPE XV, operating various voice and digital modes as bands permit. All are welcome!

Anarchist Hacker Village

A space for anarchists, abolitionists, anti-authoritarians, other like-minded folks, and friendly faces to meet and socialize. This is a space where hacking and technology are tools for total liberation. We'll have freely available swag like zines and stickers, and possibly more things like tea. So, please come by.

The Badge Clinic

If you own a HOPE electronic badge or other similar device, then celebrate by coming to the Badge Clinic with your stories, questions, and answers. Nurses at the Badge Clinic serve electronic therapy to hackers interested in badges. We encourage families and kids to become our most hacked patients. The Badge Clinic is open for your exploration of modern and classic hacker-made wearable electronics. Our Raison d'Être includes answering questions about the thirtieth anniversary HOPE XV electronic badge as well as other devices. Electronic devices resembling hacker badges or accessories (lanyard, simple addon, SAO, programming cable) can get therapy at the Badge Clinic. Nurses who have taken the Hackocratic Oath serve by assembling a museum of historical badges, showcasing devices that you bring to us, examining and surgically repairing badge problems, and advising hackers on electronic badge related topics.

Calyx Mobile Privacy Village

An informal gathering space for HOPE attendees to learn more about the Calyx Institute, our programs, and resources for digital privacy, including CalyxOS, and hands-on support for phone flashing.

DevKitty Village

The DevKitty village offers hardware and hacking workshops throughout each day of HOPE XV where attendees can learn at their own pace and ask questions about any of the proposed topics. Workshops make use of the DevKitty, a cat-shaped hacking companion you build yourself. We’ll give out free kits for attendees to solder and then use at the several workshops given at the DevKitty Village. We will also offer a small “soldering & repair area” where anyone can work on projects or build one of our kits. Beginner to Advanced – all are welcome.

Hackerspaces Village

Looking for a physical place to hack, code, craft, the rest of the year? Hang out with reps form local Hackerspaces like NYC Resistor and Hack Manhattan. Learn about upcoming workshops, meetups and parties. Talk about Hackerspace Design patterns. Swap stories about projects and organization strategies in case you want to join a hackerspace or start your own!

Lockpick Village

A place to learn and practice lockpicking. Christine and Bob have run Lockpick Villages for many public conferences including B-Sides SF, B-Sides Chicago and the Diana Initiative. We will bring the necessary materials, locks, picks, instructional aids, and knowledgeable instructors.

Physical Security Village

The Physical Security Village explores the world of door hardware bypasses and techniques generally outside of the realm of cyber-security and lockpicking. Come learn some of these lock bypasses, how to fix them, and have the opportunity to try them out for yourself. We’ll be covering the basics, like the under-the-door-tool and latch slipping attacks, as well as an in depth look at more complicated bypasses. Learn about elevator hacking, defeating alarm systems and surveillance cameras, with cut-away and display models of common hardware to show how it works on the inside. It is very easy to get started in our village - simply read the instruction sheets we have, scan a QR code to learn the techniques, or ask any of our volunteers in the green shirts if you have questions!

Script-Kitty Village

Want to learn ethical hacking? Come by the cat-themed script-kitty village and learn something new from one of our beginner-friendly projects! Check out our workshops and kits teaching soldering, Wi-Fi hacking, BadUSB attacks, LoRa hacking, and more. We'll have open source, cat-shaped tools for learning ethical hacking and prizes for our CTF challenge.
